Darwen Heritage Centre 5th Birthday Celebrations

We had a wonderful day at the Darwen Heritage Centre on Saturday 17th September 2022 celebrating our 5th birthday of opening to the public. We were very pleased to welcome the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen to address the assembled folk, cut the cake and be the first to sign the birthday card. Nice to see the support from Darwen Town Councillors and Jake Berry MP. Past and present volunteers were there to witness Gordon Smith pipe us into the Meeting Room and Pat Smith read a poem she had written especially for the occasion.
Thank you to all who supported us as we now look forward to the next five years and more.

We want a heritage centre
Something fresh and new
Not some dusty old place with a stuffed kangaroo
The committee looked round for a suitable place
But nothing would do, not enough space
Then a nice chap called David
{He looked after the grouse]
Said wait a minute, you can have Holker House

The committee was stunned and quite perplexed
What shall we do? What do we do next?
So, they had a big meeting and a big debate
Hummed, hawed and tutted at the centres’ fate
But common sense won and they were united
All in agreement, all delighted
Five years have gone by and I feel we must
Celebrate the place in whom we trust
With our heirlooms and treasures for all to see
In our heritage centre, no charge and no fee
